Mower County Historical Museum, Austin, MN

Like many county museum, Mower County is a miscellanea of donated objects. One gets the feeling that none will be refused. One display about the nearby Hormel meat packing plant has a wonderful salami string-wrapping machine. There is a World War II display of a flag with eight stars, but the family had only seven sons in the service . . . I was told that the family dog had also “volunteered.” Also on display is a table that Jesse James played cards upon; this seems highly unlikely because at the time he was running from a pursuing posse.
