House of the Temple, Washington, D.C.

I came to photograph the bronzed baby shoes of J. Edgar Hoover. Unfortunately, the “museum” had been put into storage. A common encounter these days. However, there is still much the see and photograph here. The architect, John Russell Pope, designed the Jefferson Memorial and several other buildings around Washington. His designs, in direct opposition to the growing influence of International Modernism, were deeply rooted in classical styles. Most amazingly, the building had not been altered in any way since its construction in 1915.
